how i made my packaging

fr the packaging that we had to make i had many ideas and wanted to make it unusual since the whole journey is unusual and a bit .. mad so i thought about different ways to make my box

packaging (1) i reasearched packaging designs and found some really interesting ones online these are all the different packaging desings that i found. well i found more but these where the most interesting

then i watched a french film called ” the suicide shop” a really nice animation film but the mother in this cartoon packs a bottle of poison in a triangular box which looks really really cool.http://www.packagingoftheworld.com/2010/04/suntory-hibiki-12-gift-pack.html this link is another triangular shaped box design which i found really elegant which means it doesnt fit with my project. http://www.youthedesigner.com/2011/09/05/packaging-design-40-creative-box-designs-thatll-bowl-you-over/ and this website has nother whole bunch of different packaging design.

so i thought i could make a triangular box for my book and map  so i tyed different things out

this box is stuck together with double sided sticky tape and it has a litte square at the bottom before going into the triangle its jsut a really rough trial so it doesn’t look like a proper triangle. i like this idea but for my book to fit it would have to be quite big and i would need a lot of material.

this triangle is folded and slotted in as you can see in some pictures no glue needed if i where to do it properly which would be more economic and environmentally friendly but again I would need Quite a lot of material to make it and if i where to miss caluclate which is pre programmed when i have to work with number it wouldn’t work .

So i tryed something different how about something cylindrical .

this is the design i came up with but it looke smore like a funky chair design than a box so I went to my room where i hord my cardboard parcels and had a look what i could find

DSC_0035 i found these boxes all different sizes and shapes i sudied the way it was made for a bit then cut a box out of the big one to make it the size i need it to be then coloured it in with water soluble oil pastles and this is what came out.

DSC_0067 DSC_0070 DSC_0066yes i know it loks really really bad, but i was desperat to finish it

later on i was shopping in aldi with my boyfreind and we got some peanuts… the box they where in was empty so i lifted it up to remove the lid of the next box (as you do) and see there the perfect blue top so i removed it got the peanuts and the box which looked like this

DSC_0088 DSC_0085 DSC_0084  it was a perfect blue colour that would fit perfectly with the blue print  map and theme i was now running with. so i cut it folded it and ended up with a very nice box then for the inside i cut up a paper copy of my map that i had and cut it in little pieces and stuck it in to portray the confusion and helplessness that you can experience the first time you com to the design center untill you have found your own way around it your own safe route.  or when your really really tiered and really stressed you can still feel like that. Anyway here is what it looks like.

DSC_0076 DSC_0073 DSC_0071i have started drawing and scrawling on my box like i have done with my map to link them together. and that is my final box design. 100% recycled.
